The Jewish Book Garden nurtures the growth of the Jewish literary community. We want more Jewish books, for more readers, in more places. We push for the highest possible quality in Jewish literature.

Our intent is to nurture interconnected groups of stakeholders: those who grow Jewish literature, those who harvest it and serve it up, and those on the receiving end who feast on delicious books, and whose enthusiasm plants the seeds that renew the literary growth cycle. We welcome those for whom these books are windows as well as those who see themselves mirrored in these stories. We serve:

Creators, growing Jewish books

Those who dream up Jewish stories to reach the hearts of readers - authors and others in the publishing field.

Advocates, harvesting Jewish books

Those who speak up for Jewish stories - librarians, booksellers, teachers, influencers.

Readers, feasting on Jewish books

Those who embrace Jewish stories - patrons, customers, fans, families.

The Jewish Book Garden is the brainchild of Susan Kusel and Heidi Rabinowitz, synagogue librarians and past Chairs of the Sydney Taylor Book Award, who both tirelessly advocate for Jewish children’s literature, building community and building bridges.
